Life forms existed more than 6,000 years ago at many sites along the winding shoreline of Hong Kong. It was believed that during the earliest prehistoric periods, from the close of the fourth millennium BC, Hong Kong experienced a change in the environment, in which the sea levels rose from as much as 100 meters below the present level.

Ancient artifacts suggest a strong dependency on the sea. According to recent excavations, archaeologists have discovered two main Neolithic cultures lying in stratified sequence. Pieces of coarse, cord-marked pottery has been found together with fine, soft, fragile pottery .
Aberdeen in Hong Kong
Aberdeen, the largest satellite town of Hong Kong city, is a vibrant waterfront harbour resort. It is unique in the sense that it puts forward the traditional lifestyle and modernity on a single platter. Floating restaurants are highly acclaimed features of this tourist centre, which is one of Hong Kong's oldest and most popular tour attraction.

Aberdeen in Hong Kong, also known as a resort, arranges for delicious seafood. Causeway Bay
Causeway Bay in Hong Kong, known for its shopping extravaganza, hosts large number of Japanese department stores, boutiques and entertainment spots. Electronics and camera shops abound in the region. The place boasts of shopping spots like Windsor House and Times Square

This area, which is always brimming with hectic activities, is home to an array on high-end shops. Most prominent among Causeway Bay shopping spots are Windsor House and Times Square. Between them, one can discover Fashion Island, World Trade Centre, Sogo, Mitsukoshi and Causeway Bay Plaza. The region is particularly known for Hong Kong and Japanese style shopping malls and arcades.

Disneyland in Hong Kong
Disneyland in Hong Kong, credited as the first theme park of China, is different from other disneylands of the world, for it has natural backdrop of verdant mountains and undulating landscape. The ultra-modern holiday resort has been segregated in themed lands like Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland and Main Street U.S.A.

Hongkong Disney land is developed on reclaimed land in Penny's Bay, Lantau Island. The disneyland theme park, which was opened to visitors on September 12, 2005, is capable of handling 32000 visitors daily. Several travel companies offer disneyland tour packages for visiting the theme park.

Lantau Island
Lantau Island, the largest outlying island in Hong Kong, is located at the mouth of the Pearl River. The site of sleepy fishing villages of yesteryears has been developed as a major tourist travel destination in Hong Kong. The tour gives one the opportunity to enjoy tourist hotspots likes Disneyland, Po Lin Monastery, Tung Chung Fort and Tai O.

Tai O is a three centuries old fishing town known for its hundreds of stilt houses. The town retains much of its legacy such as waterways, stilt houses and fishing boats. Tourists don't fail to traditional Chinese food like salted fish and shrimp paste here.

Ocean Park
Ocean Park, the largest oceanarium in the world, is the foremost tourist attraction in South Hong Kong. The Park was launched long before in 1977 with the investment of HK$150 million. The Park spreads on approximate 170 acres. A cable-car bridge links the two sections of the Park.

Ocean Theatre, a part of the Park, has a pool large enough to hold giant sea creatures like dolphins and killer whales. Wave Cove, located near it, is like a rocky coastline. It has a wave-machine which can produce waves up to one meter high. Creatures like dolphins, seals, penguins, sea lions and many kinds of sea birds can be seen playing in the Cove.

Po Lin Monastery
Po Lin Monastery, which literally translates as 'Precious Lotus' is the most renowned Buddhist monastery in Hong Kong. It holds collosal copper idol of Sakyamuni or Tian Tan Buddha, which is regarded as the tallest outdoor Buddha statue in the world.

Originally built by three monks visiting from Jiangsu in 1906, the monastery was initially called 'The Big Hut'. That time it was only a shrine. Gradually, many monks settled there and it was renamed 'Po Lin Monastery'. It expanded further in the decade of 1930. Additional larger halls and temple were added to the monastery. Continuously growing with time, it became one of the top monasteries in Hong Kong.
